How to Prepare for Your Bridal Hair Trial at Salon Novo
The Trial Run Sets the Tone
Sonoma wine country is one of the most beautiful places to get married. Whether your ceremony is at a vineyard, a private estate, or right here on the Plaza, your hair needs to hold up from the first look through the last dance. That is what the trial run is for.
When to Schedule Your Trial
We recommend booking your bridal trial four to six weeks before the wedding. This gives you enough time to make adjustments if needed, but close enough to the date that your hair length and color will be the same on the big day.
What to Bring
- Inspiration photos — Pinterest boards, magazine clippings, or screenshots. Bring several so your stylist can identify the common thread in what you are drawn to.
- Your veil or headpiece — if you plan to wear one, bring it to the trial. The style needs to work with the accessory.
- A photo of your dress — neckline and back details influence which hairstyles work best.
- An open mind — your stylist may suggest adjustments based on your hair texture and what will photograph well.
What Happens During the Trial
A bridal trial at Salon Novo includes both hair and makeup and typically takes about two hours. Your stylist will work through the look, photograph it from multiple angles, and make notes for the wedding day. You will leave the salon wearing the style so you can see how it holds throughout the day.
Hair Prep Before the Wedding
In the weeks leading up to the wedding, avoid drastic changes. Do not try a brand-new color formula or get a major cut. Stick with your regular maintenance schedule. If you want color refreshed, do it one to two weeks before the wedding — not the day before.
Day-of Hair Tips
Come to your wedding day appointment with clean, dry hair — washed the night before is ideal. Skip heavy conditioners and oils that make hair slippery. Second-day hair actually holds updos and waves better than freshly washed hair.
